The Power Of C And Cancer

Maybe you are aware of it. Maybe not. I saw a mention of it this morning in the LA Times.
Since this is a blog titled vitamins power and health I felt this is the place to blog it.. Seems there is new research going on using Vitamin C with the chemotherapy  used against cancer, especially ovarian cancer.
"It seems the ascorbic causes an energy crisis for the cancer cells"  Qi Chen, biochemist of the University of Kansas states.
Vitamin C absorbed from foods such as Oranges, Strawberry, Broccoli and Kale feed the neurotransmitters in the brain and make the collagen, a protein that forms the main structural component of connective tissue.
It somehow acts as some help in treatment. The high concentration of ascorbic gets between the spaces in the cells and forms hydrogen peroxide which then acts as a stress to the cancer DNA and inhibits its growth.
This reaction seems to improve the effectiveness of the traditional cancer drugs, Carboplatin and Paclitaxel.  The hydrogen peroxide seems not to harm the noncancerous cells.
27 patients have been in a study of the effects of this cocktail on advanced ovarian cencer. Some were given 75 to 105 grams vitamin C along with their chemotherapy. This was done according to body weight.
Those who had the cocktail showed more energy, expressed less nausea and tolerated the chemotherapy better than those not given C.
Since Vitamin C is passed out in the urine it was found injecting the C into the veins worked best
.   There you have it. This days blog.
