Osteoporosis and Supplements

There is a disease out there called osteoporosis. This comes about when our bones become porous, like Swiss cheese. And it opens us up to fractures of our hips, vertebrae and wrists as well forearms.
   It is preventable and treatable.

Ruth S. Jacobowotz, former vice  president of Mount Sinai Medical Center in Cleveland has said, " There is no reason this disease should exist. It's preventable just through nutrition and exercise, if a woman starts young enough."
By the way, men are also recipients of this disease. Not just women.
Jacobowitz goes on to say, It is never too early or too late to build bone. Even elderly women can still build some amount of bone density."
You can do it through supplementation. All you need is calcium and calcium-rich foods.
A list of calcium rich foods follows.

  1. Skim Milk
  2. nonfat yogurt
  3. cheese
  4. collard greens
  5. mustard greens
  6. kale
  7. broccoli
  8. canned salmon with bones
  9. sardines with bones
   Just to mention a few.
Yes, Osteoporosis and supplements are important. Supplements because we don't get all we need through food. But there is also a balance. too much calcium and we get constipation and kidney stones. We should aim for 600 milligrams a day. We can divide it up into 300 milligrams twice a day. It should always be taken with food.
