Fight Inflammation

As we age we all tend to eat funny and go for the quick answer  when it comes to what to have quick and cheap. We don't realize that we are putting things in our body that may not be good for us.
And as we continue to eat this way we build up what is known as free radials in our body. There is nothing free about these radicals. They are empty cell bodies that circulate through our body seeking good cells to steal a neuron from a good cell and making it a free radical. Enough of them and you have inflammation. Soon you have arthritis. And this is purely inflammation of the joints. Soon there is osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis. Let me introduce you to a product called Curcumin 2000. (click on name)
It is a product that can help soothe your systems. It  is reported also to protect against colitis and stomach ulcers as well as lowering the cholesterol. It can help fight against excessive inflammation.

Food Can Make You Healthy

Eat Fruits and Vegetables
We need to be eating whole foods. Processed foods take out what is beneficial to our bodies and bring about a lack our body strives to replace. And we get depleted.
Yes, our bodies do manufacture some nutrients. We seem  able to synthasize from the food we eat and the phytochemicals produced from the food a substance that helps us combat disease and enhance well-being.
      Long sentence, isn't it?
It is just to say we need to eat a diversity of foods. The foods will work together to promote good health.
But what ever we take in must be bioavailable. It must be useable, is all I am trying to say.
Let's face it.. not everyone is going to eat whole foods. There is a vast need for supplements.
Hippocrates has said, "Let medicine be your food, and food your medicine"
Did he know something we don't? In his day there were no McDonald's or Jack in The Box. But I am sure there were fast food junkies who were trying to push the benefits of eat and run.
Food may even effect our mood, our memory, longevity, and immune response If this is so we should be very careful what we eat.
Eat lots of fruits and vegetables since this is a way to get more nutrients directly.
Keep up the comments. Please feel free to respond..

It Is A Puzzlement To Me

I have been doing some studying lately on the subject of free radicals. There is no way we are
going to avoid them. They are just there. We make free radicals, or I should say our body makes. free radicals from the oxygen we breath. So there is no way short of stop breathing that we are going to stop making free radicals.
Taking vitamins and supplements as well as eatting the right foods will help keep some free radicals down. But they are there.
When we exercise we are opening ourselves up to free radicals. but it is not healthy to stop exercising, so there is a puzzlement there. We need to exercise to stay in good health. When we exercise we breath in more oxygen. oxygen can cause free radicals to grow. Free radicals steal electrons from our good cells causing more free radicals. The mutated cells turn on the body and age it and somethimes become cancer cells. But we need the exercise. And to a certain extent we may need the free radicals.
To fight against the excess free radicals we should be taking antioxidants such as C and E and A to name a few.
I look at our body builders of old, Jack LaLanne comes to mind, who lived to a very old age. What was their secret? For sure the free radicals were active in their body. They aged, sure, but they stayed in good condition. So nutrition and exercise are good even if this substance called free radicals is present.
     Readers, maybe you can help.

What Do Nutritionists Recommend?

It was just sitting there. A snip from an old Redbook Magazine.  It had the internet address on it.--www.redbookmag.com if I wanted to seek more information. My wife had left it. I guess because I was blogging about nutrition.
It was titled "12 Foods Nutritionists Eat". Just a two page picture article. Twelve items.
Item one was Almond Milk.   The blurb said that it has half the calories of cow's milk and also vitamin E. Vitamin E is a very important and powerful antioxidant. It helps keep our cells clean and also fights free radicals. Free Radicals being b
ad and robbers of an electron in the cell. I think I have blogged in an earlier blog on free radicals, so I won't here.
Item two in the list is the avocado.. This is said to be  a source of healthy fats. The body does need some fats to run properly.
Item three is a stick of cinnamon. This will help regulate blood sugars.
Item four is dark berries such as blue berries and black berries.
Sounds like a delicious diet so far.
Item five  is Greek Yogurt. Yum. It has the probiotics your body needs for digestion.
The lovable egg is our sixth item recommended. This will help you fight heart disease. It has only 17 calories and has13 vitamins and minerals. It also contains an anti-inflammatory mineral called Choline.
Yes, they recommend an oil also. they recommend -seventh-the extra virgin olive oil. this oil is teaming with mono-saturated fats and antioxidants. And it is delicious. This one I use , not as much as I could, but when I have olive oil it is this blend.
Coming up eighth is the hummus which will give you fiber and protein. put olive oil on this and you have a good tasting dish
The ninth recommendation is nuts. A handful of almonds or walnuts, for example, will do wonders for your skin, that's the E vitamin there, and will clean up your cells.
Number ten is a green leafy vegetable known as Kale. This is loaded with vitamins K, A, and C.  This leafy vegetable fights against cancer. It also is anti-inflammatory and is a good antioxidant.
Remember to stay hydrated.. Take a glass of water with lemon. This will help your Ph balance in your digestive system.  It will bring your system back into balance from acid to alkaline.
And last recommendation is a grain called Quinos.  which the article, or blurb under the picture states has omega -3 fatty acids and is a complete source of protein. It also claims to be anti-inflammatory.
There you have the recommendations as recorded in that paper left for me to read.

Exercise and Vitamins

If you are looking for good health there are two must haves. One is good supplementation that can be gotten one of two ways. You can eat raw foods and nuts or you can take supplements.
Either way, if you don’t also have an exercise program, your taking in good nutrition is worthless.
Exercise can take the form of aerobic activities such as walking and running, so exercising is not impossible to do. This aerobic exercise will slow the aging process. We do this because none of us wishes to grow old before our time.
A program of strength training is also suggested.
Do about 8 to 10 exercises a week. This means you don’t have to power walk or power run every day.
But do take your vitamins every day. Exercising drains some nutrients from the body.
The main reason you do this exercising especially strength training is to increase your bone density. It can also help strengthen joints. You may find your balance and stability improving. Endurance to do things without as mush fatigue will also be a benefit.
Your posture will improve with less back pain. Overall you will look trimmer, more toned, and younger.
I have a small area in my apartment with bar bells and a dumb bell. I use them to keep my arm muscles and upper body looking good. I do leg lefts and squats for my legs and lower areas. I find having some equipment in my house helps. Not everyone can afford the fees of a gym that they only visit from time to time.
When you do your supplementation be sure you eat five servings a day of fruits and vegetables. Be sure while eating well you also drink eight 8- ounce glasses of water. You need to stay hydrated.
Drink and pee. Clean out your insides.
When it comes to while grains you should aim for at least three serving a day. And don’t forget your oatmeal and wild rice.
Not necessarily at the same meal.
You will also need your antioxidants to neutralize the free radicals exercising will build up in your body. Free radicals are not your friends. They are  cells that lack an electron and their sole purpose is to go about stealing from healthy cells the electron they need. This turns the good cell into a bad cell—another free radical which goes about hunting more cells to mutate. If they are not taken out by antioxidants they may turn to cancer cells.
Free radicals also are believed to lower your risk of heart disease, stroke, and other memory loss-- along with the risk of cancer.
This is where you C and E and D along with Folic Acid and fish oil comes into play.
Below find an exercise machine you can purchase and set up in your house so you don’t have to pay high gym fees. That is unless you really want to. Also I want to include a book on training. No extra equipment needed.
